Mythical Atlas uses Polar as our payment and billing provider. Polar acts as our Merchant of Record, meaning they handle all payment processing, tax compliance, invoicing, and receipts on our behalf. Under the hood, Polar uses Stripe for secure payment processing.
Players always use Mythical Atlas completely free. Only Game Masters who want to create and run their own campaigns need a paid subscription. Visit our pricing page for full plan details and to subscribe.

How to Subscribe
Getting started with a Game Master subscription is quick and straightforward:
- 1Create an account or sign in to your existing Mythical Atlas account.
- 2Visit the pricing page and choose the Monthly or Yearly Game Master plan.
- 3Click "Subscribe Now" to be redirected to our secure checkout page hosted by Polar.
- 4Enter your payment details and complete the checkout. Your subscription activates immediately and your free trial begins.
- 5Head back to Mythical Atlas. You now have full Game Master access and can create your first campaign!

Free Trial
Both the Monthly and Yearly Game Master plans include a 1-month free trial. This gives you full access to all GM features so you can explore everything Mythical Atlas has to offer before you're charged.
- •Credit card required: A valid payment method is needed to start the trial, but you won’t be charged until the trial ends.
- •Full access: During the trial you have the same features as any paying Game Master — no limitations.
- •Cancel anytime: If you cancel before the trial period ends, you won’t be charged. Your GM access remains until the trial expires.
Managing Your Subscription
You can manage your subscription at any time through the Polar customer portal. The portal lets you:
- •View your current plan and subscription status.
- •Switch between plans (e.g., upgrade from monthly to yearly).
- •Update your payment method or billing details.
- •View past orders and payment history.
- •Cancel your subscription at any time.
How to access the portal: There are two ways to manage your subscription:
- •From the pricing page: Visit the pricing page and click "Manage Subscription" on any plan card to be redirected to the Polar customer portal.
- •From your account dashboard: Go to your account settings and open the Account tab to view your subscription status and access the billing portal.
Tip: You must be signed in to access the customer portal or your account dashboard. If you're not signed in, you'll be redirected to the sign-in page first.
Cancellation
You can cancel your Game Master subscription at any time through the Polar customer portal. Here's what happens when you cancel:
- •Access continues: You keep your Game Master features until the end of your current billing period. If you cancel a monthly plan mid-month, you retain GM access until the month ends. For yearly plans, you keep access until the year ends.
- •No partial refunds: Cancellation stops future renewals but does not refund the current billing period. You always get the full time you’ve paid for.
- •Your data is safe: Campaign data, quests, maps, notes, and all other content you’ve created are preserved. Nothing is deleted when you cancel.
What Happens to Your Campaigns
Once your subscription fully expires (at the end of the billing period), your campaigns will need a new Game Master to remain active. Campaigns you created will be flagged as needing a new owner, and your role in those campaigns will change from GM to Player. Another subscribed Game Master can claim ownership to keep the campaign running. All campaign content remains intact regardless.

Payment Security & Methods
Your payment information is handled securely by Polar and Stripe. Mythical Atlas never stores your credit card number, CVV, or full payment details on our servers.

- No sensitive payment data stored on Mythical Atlas servers
- Polar acts as Merchant of Record, handling compliance

Billing, Invoices & Tax
Because Polar is our Merchant of Record, they handle all billing operations including:
- •Automatic recurring billing: Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing cycle (monthly or yearly). You’ll receive an email confirmation from Polar for each payment.
- •Invoices and receipts: Polar sends email confirmations for payments. You can also view your order history in the Polar customer portal.
- •Tax compliance: As the Merchant of Record, Polar handles all applicable sales tax, VAT, and other tax obligations based on your location. Taxes are calculated and applied automatically at checkout.
- •Currency: All prices are listed in USD. Your bank or card provider may apply currency conversion fees if you’re paying in a different currency.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do players need to pay anything?
No. Players always use Mythical Atlas completely free. Only users who want to create and run campaigns as a Game Master need a subscription.
Can I switch between monthly and yearly plans?
Yes. You can switch plans at any time through the Polar customer portal. If you upgrade from monthly to yearly, the change takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
What happens if my payment fails?
If a payment fails, Polar will attempt to retry the charge. If the issue persists, your subscription may be paused or cancelled. You’ll receive email notifications about any payment issues. You can update your payment method in the customer portal to resolve problems.
Can I get a refund?
We don’t offer refunds for subscription payments. When you cancel, your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period, so you’ll always get the full time you’ve paid for.
Is there a limit to how many campaigns I can create?
No. Both the monthly and yearly Game Master plans allow you to create unlimited campaigns at no extra cost.
What happens to my campaigns if I cancel?
Your campaign data is never deleted. After your subscription expires, your campaigns are flagged as needing a new owner, and your role changes from GM to Player. Another subscribed Game Master can claim ownership. If you re-subscribe, you can reclaim your campaigns and resume as GM.
