Help & Guides

Shop

The Shop lets Game Masters set up merchants across the campaign world, stock them with items, and manage custom currencies. Players can browse merchants and their inventories to see what's available in each location.

Merchants are organised by city, making it easy to find what's available wherever the party is travelling.

Tip: Your campaign starts with five default currencies (GP, SP, CP, PP, EP). You can customise these or add your own homebrew currencies at any time.

Creating a Merchant

GM only

Click "Add Merchant" to create a new shop. Each merchant has:

  • Name (required): the merchant or shop name (e.g. "Ironforge Smithy").
  • City (required): the city or region where the merchant is based. Merchants are grouped by city on the main page.
  • Location : finer detail about where to find them within the city (e.g. "Market District, East Stall 4").
  • Description : a brief summary of what the merchant sells or any flavour text.

Organising by Location

The City field is key to organisation. On the Shop page, merchants are automatically grouped under city headings. If your party visits Waterdeep, they'll see all Waterdeep merchants in one section. Use the city filter dropdown to narrow the view to a single city.

The Location field adds extra detail within that city, so players know exactly where to find a particular merchant.

Stock Items

GM only

Each merchant has their own inventory of stock items. Open a merchant's detail dialog and click "Edit Stock" to manage their items.

Item Fields

  • Item Name (required): what the item is called.
  • Description : details about the item.
  • Price : the cost of the item in the selected currency. Set to "Variable" for items with negotiable pricing.
  • Currency : which currency the price is denominated in (selected from your campaign currencies).
  • Quantity : how many are in stock. Leave blank for unlimited supply.
  • Available : toggle whether the item is currently for sale.

Staple vs Rotating Items

Each stock item has a type:

Staple

Items that are always or regularly available. Core stock the merchant is known for.

Rotating

Items that come and go. Seasonal goods, rare finds, or limited‑time offers the GM swaps in and out.

In the Edit Stock dialog, items are organised in a tabbed interface so you can manage Staple and Rotating stock separately.

Currencies

Every campaign has its own set of currencies used to price stock items. Click the "Currencies" button (visible to all members) to view the current currencies.

Default Currencies

New campaigns are automatically initialised with the standard D&D currencies:

GP (Gold Pieces)SP (Silver Pieces)CP (Copper Pieces)PP (Platinum Pieces)EP (Electrum Pieces)

Managing Currencies GM only

  • Name : full name of the currency (e.g. "Dragon Scales").
  • Abbreviation : short code, unique per campaign, max 10 characters (e.g. "DS").
  • Description : optional flavour text, max 200 characters.

GMs can add custom currencies or delete existing ones. A currency cannot be deleted if any stock items are currently using it.

Browsing & Filtering

All campaign members can browse the Shop. Available filters:

  • Search : searches across merchant names, descriptions, item names, and item descriptions.
  • City filter : dropdown to show merchants from a specific city.

Merchants are displayed as cards grouped under city headings. Each card shows the merchant name, location, description, and a preview of their featured items. Click a merchant card to open the full detail dialog with the complete inventory.

Editing & Deleting

GM only
  • Edit Merchant: update the merchant's name, city, location, or description.
  • Edit Stock: add, update, or remove items from the merchant's inventory using the tabbed interface.
  • Delete Merchant: permanently remove the merchant and all their stock items. This cannot be undone.

Players can browse merchants and view items but cannot make changes.

Example Workflow

Here's how the Shop might be used during a campaign:

  1. 1The GM creates a currency called "Dragon Scales" (DS) for a homebrew region alongside the default gold pieces.
  2. 2A merchant called "Grimjaw's Armoury" is added in the city "Thornhold" with the location "Northgate Market".
  3. 3Staple items like longswords and shields are added priced in GP. A rare magical dagger is added as a Rotating item with limited quantity.
  4. 4Another merchant, "The Wandering Alchemist", is added in "Thornhold" with potions priced in both GP and DS.
  5. 5Players open the Shop, filter by "Thornhold", and browse both merchants to plan their purchases before the next session.
  6. 6After the party buys the magical dagger, the GM toggles its "Available" flag off or reduces the quantity to 0.
