Sandbox Mode

Sandbox Mode lets every user explore the full Mythical Atlas experience — no subscription, no invite code, no setup. Activate it from your dashboard and start experimenting immediately.

It's ideal for new users who want to see what the platform offers before committing to a real campaign, or for Game Masters who want to prototype content before sharing it with players.

How It Works

When you activate sandbox mode, Mythical Atlas creates a personal sandbox campaign just for you. You become the GM of this campaign, which means every feature page is fully accessible.

Key details

  • Each content category is limited to 5 entries (updates, notes, quests, etc.).
  • Your sandbox campaign is private — other users cannot join or see it.
  • All data is preserved when you exit. Re-entering sandbox mode picks up where you left off.
  • Sandbox campaigns do not appear in campaign lists or selectors — only in the dedicated sandbox indicator.
  • You can switch between sandbox mode and real campaigns at any time from the dashboard.

Activating & Deactivating

To activate

  1. 1Go to your dashboard.
  2. 2Click the "Try Sandbox" button (amber flask icon).
  3. 3The page will refresh and you'll have full GM access to all features.

To deactivate

  1. 1Go to your dashboard.
  2. 2Click the "Exit Sandbox" button.
  3. 3Select a real campaign from the campaign selector, or stay without an active campaign.

Note: You can also activate sandbox mode from any feature page's empty state — look for the "Try Sandbox Mode" button.

Visual Indicators

When sandbox mode is active, several visual cues help you distinguish it from regular campaign usage:

  • The campaign selector on the dashboard shows an amber "Sandbox Mode" label instead of the usual dropdown.
  • The feature navigation bar has an amber border and a "Sandbox" badge.
  • The dashboard displays a status card with usage counts for each content category.
  • The sandbox toggle button on the dashboard changes to "Exit Sandbox".

Limits & Restrictions

Sandbox mode is designed for exploration, not long-term use. The following limits apply:

  • 5 entries per category — updates, notes, quests, maps, creatures, info, rules, merchants, polls, facilities, and hirelings each have an independent cap.
  • No invite code — sandbox campaigns cannot be joined by other users.
  • Hidden from lists — sandbox campaigns don't appear in campaign selectors or member lists.

To create unlimited content, subscribe and create a real campaign, or ask a Game Master for an invite code.
